Plans have been drawn up to modernise a near 100-year-old building while preserving its historic features.
The old primary building at Leverhulme Memorial School in Leverburgh is to be converted into a community base.
Renovation designs from Bard architects reflect a “modern and attractive” community facility.
Larger windows will bring more light into the premises and make the most of the scenic views of the bay.
The historical, pre-existing configuration of the gables will be restored.
Also on the cards is a small visor-like canopy to cover the front entrance and steps. The timber frame canopy would be covered in a corrugated metal sheeting.
Inside, new office space and a reception at the front entrance will be created after some minor alterations.
New toilet facilities are included in the plans.
Keys for the premises were handed over in November to the Leverhulme Community Hub group which is driving forward proposals to turn it into a multi-use facility incorporating a café, charity shop, gym, launderette, comunn eachdraidh and Post Office.
The development also has room for a satellite office for the comhairle.
Redevelopment proposals aim to provide a economic and social boost and breathe new life into South Harris.
The comhairle angered locals some years ago by proposing to demolish the historic "old block" as it is known locally, sparking a rescue bid within the community.
Despite difficulties presented by the pandemic, the hub board have made great strides in pushing the redevelopment.
Bright outlook for Leverburgh community project
