The president of the Law Society of Scotland is meeting local solicitors when she travels to Stornoway today.
The Law Society is the professional body for over 12,000 Scottish lawyers who work in Scotland, the UK and elsewhere around the globe.
Alison Atack is kicking off her tour of the country in Lewis.
With the group of island solicitors she will discuss topical issues affecting the legal profession, including modernising regulation to ensure continuing high professional standards, legal aid, the use of technology within the legal sector to enhance services and career and development opportunities.
She will be joined by Law Society Council members who represent solicitors in the Highlands and Islands, Sheekha Saha, based in Stornoway, and Serena Sutherland, from Kirkwall, alongside guest speaker Jennifer Henderson, Keeper of Registers of Scotland.
Alison Atack said: “Solicitors carry out vital, work within their local communities
and help people at critical and sometimes life-
“One of the most important aspects of my role is to meet with solicitors practising in different parts of the country to find out what issues are affecting them most and discuss how the Law Society can provide the right support for them and their business.
“It’s vital that we as Scottish solicitors’ professional body, provide the support, products and services solicitors need to ensure they can continue to deliver high quality legal advice and services for people and businesses in their communities.
“I’m very much looking forward to meeting our members in Stornoway today.”
Alison will also travelling to Dingwall, Elgin, Peterhead, Ayr, Castle Douglas, Dumfries, Stranraer, Kirkwall and Lerwick as part of her tour.
