Historic Environment Scotland (HES) plans to update the Barra community over the extended closure of Kisimul Castle.

This is the second year the historic Clan MacNeil stronghold - a very popular visitor attraction - has been shut to the public.

Locals fear the closure will extend well into 2024 or beyond and want HES to prioritise funding and commit to a work programme for the iconic landmark.

HES say the castle will remain off limits for safety reasons until further notice.

Repairs and conservation works to its floor spaces and walls are required.

Specialist contractors need to be hired but timescales to undertake the work are unclear.

HES representatives will be on Barra this week. The open meeting in Castlebay School starts at 6.30pm on Thursday.
