A commemorative baton is heading to Lewis to mark the 140 anniversary of the Boys’ Brigade movement.
National celebrations for the milestone event began in the autumn and continue through most of 2024.
As a mark of celebration, Edinburgh Castle was lit up in blue during September.
At the Braemar Gathering that same month, King Charles presented the King’s Baton to representatives of Boys’ Brigade from the North of Scotland Region.
Since then it has been making its way throughout Aberdeenshire, Banff, Moray, and Inverness via the BB’s companies en route.
This Saturday the baton, accompanied by two representatives from the North of Scotland region, arrives in Stornoway on MV Loch Seaforth.
There it will be received by Lord Lieutenant Iain Macaulay and presented to the 1st Stornoway BB Company which is celebrating its 85th year.
Lewis Pipe Band will play at the handover at 1pm by the Stornoway ferry terminal and all present and former BB members, regardless of age, are invited to the event.
The Lord Lieutenant will read a message from the King at St Columba’s Church hall where a photo exhibition of the Stornoway BB over the years will be on display. Tea and celebration cake will be served.
Boys’ Brigade and Girls’ Brigade companies will attend a special youth service on Sunday in St. Columba’s Church. The young people will be participating and the representatives from the North of Scotland Region will also be present
Current BB members will be presented with 140 years celebration badges to mark the anniversary.
