Irish firm secures accommodation hostel 5/5/11
Pressure to find urgent accommodation on Lewis for an outside workforce has led to an construction services firm from Northern Ireland setting up its own hostel.
JBE Building Services has been granted planning permission this week to house incoming workers in a converted weather station at Stornoway airport.
The company expects to put up around 40 electricians and plumbers in the building adjacent to the airport terminal, if required.
They are sub contracted to Belfast construction giant FMP which has won the major £70 million contract to build six schools in the Western Isles.
JBE personnel have been on various sites for some time but a busy burst of installations requiring an influx of more outside trades staff is anticipated soon with the recent start of internal works to the large new Nicolson Institute secondary school in Stornoway and the July date to commence fixings for the Westside school.
