Singer-songwriter Rosie H Sullivan is emerging onto the Scottish music scene with fresh talent as she announces her heartfelt new single, What a Life, set for release this month

This autumn release - the first in a string of new material - showcases the real emotion Rosie pours into her music, as well as her impeccable voice, elegant lyricism and intuitive songwriting skills.

There are no gimmicks with Rosie’s music; originally from Lewis and now based in Edinburgh, she radiates warmth and openness, and her story is wholly relatable.

Using poetic lyrics and beautiful melodies, What a Life tells a story of endings. The track references the hindsight and heartbreak of a past relationship and of leaving home - in this case the islands - for new places, experiences and opportunities.

With a similar ethereal musical style to the likes of Phoebe Bridgers, Laura Marling and Elliott Smith, Rosie is steadily making a name for herself.

Her debut single, So It Is, was a special moment captured with just one take and one mic in her parent’s garden just over a year ago. The song caught the attention of Spotify editorial teams as well as labels across the country.

Now working with Nettwerk Records, creating What a Life was Rosie’s first time working with a producer. She collaborated closely with Ross Hamilton (Seafret, Saint Phnx, Jack Savoretti), learning the art of trusting not just her own musical instincts, but that of others too.

What a Life appears to be a simple track, but it boasts a depth that is only amplified by gritty, muffled electric guitar tones Ross and Rosie introduced in the studio. The recording was a learning process for Rosie, and the resulting maturity and emotion in the single is palpable.

Rosie H Sullivan said: “This song is very personal and completely transparent; I wrote it at a difficult time, full of uncertainty and change. The lyrics are very close to my heart, and I think this really comes through. I needed to get into the zone for this one - I got myself back to the headspace I was in when I wrote the song and just sat and sang my emotions out.”

What a Life will be available to download and stream from Friday 16th September 2022.
