A motorsport design engineer from Lewis is hoping to drive to poll position in the finals of the prestigious Formula Woman international competition.
Isla Mackenzie is one of 50 females woman through to the end stages of the televised contest, which offers aspiring female race drivers the chance to win a sponsored entry in this year’s GT Cup Championship driving a McLaren GT4 car.
The 27-year-old who grew up in Stornoway and now works in Oxfordshire for a Formula 1 team, is thrilled to achieve the chance to compete in the finals.
She said: “I am so excited and proud to be in the final - I’m one of 50 girls to make the finals out of over 800 applicants.
“My initial assessment was in September and I’ve worked so hard this past year to chase this dream.”
She says support from sponsors, including her title sponsor, organic seaweed skincare company ishga has been instrumental in her journey to the McLaren driving seat.
“The support from the north of Scotland especially has been amazing,” said Isla.
“I am really thankful for all my sponsors, because without them I wouldn’t have been able to get all the driving tuition and seat time I have had so far.”
She added: “I am now busy preparing for the finals in March and getting as much time on track as possible. It’s been an incredible journey and I know that one way or another, I’m going to be racing this year.”
