A Uist and Benbecula group of dancers have won a raft of trophies and medals at the Scottish Irish dancing competitions.

Seven dancers taught by tutor Lorna Laird competed at national level at the two day event in Glasgow.

Hundreds of hopefuls from across the country participated at the heats.

Despite being up against stiff competitions, the island dancers qualified for the world championships in the Netherlands in the spring.

Margaret McWilliams was crowned champion in the under 10 years beginners’ category.

Carly MacKay secured fourth overall place in her category in the competition. Earlier, she won the second prize for the U13 years intermediate section.

In the adult events, Hannah Morrison was placed third in the over 40 beginners section and Yvie Vonnie Wyper was second in the beginners’ under 40s contest.

Second prize for the under-11s primary girls was won by Beth Morrison while Amelia Morrison was placed fourth.

Elise Judge was presented with a prize for taking third place in the under 11s intermediate competition.
