Hebridean players to the fore in Alba team
4 November 2024
Sean Macleod of Lewis has been announced as manager of Alba, the Scottish Gaelic
international team, as Iomain Cholmcille comes to the island for the first time ever.
He was previously co-manager of the side on two separate occasions.
Macleod has named a squad for the Alba v Èirinn game against the Irish representative
team, Fir Uladh, in the Gaelic shinty-hurling international this Saturday at 1.30pm
in Siabost.
He is well versed in international hurling as a player and manager. He played in
the first Iomain in Oban in 2007 and is honoured to lead the Scottish Gaelic team
on his own home turf.
Sean Macleod said: “Eight clubs from different leagues are represented from the Premier
League down. Many in this squad are very familiar with the format of international
games with several players having played for Alba before this.
“It also shows how strong Camanachd Leòdhais has been in terms of camanachd and Gaelic
with eight players involved in this year’s squad and an opportunity for them to present
this at an international level at home in Shawbost.
“This year’s captain of the team is Paddy Sinclair from Camanachd Léodhais, a great
Gael and a player who has great experience of Iomain Cholmcille.”
