Some 300 litres of fuel were removed under the cover of darkness while residents were in their home in the Tolsta area of Lewis.

A notice from the resident on the North Tolsta Community Noticeboard said: “The house is always occupied day and night so people are aware this is happening right under peoples noses.”

They added: “This appears to be a repeat occurrence over a period of a couple of weeks/months occurring during night time hours.

“Please do be vigilant and report anything suspicious.”

The theft was reported to police.

Western Isles Police said: “We are appealing for information to assist our enquiries into a theft of 300 litres of heating oil from an address in New Tolsta, Isle of Lewis.

“This happened between Tuesday 25th February 2025 and Monday 17th March 2025.  

“If you were in the area, did you see anything or anybody unusual? If you were driving and have dashcam fitted, we would encourage you to review this in case you may have captured anything that might help.”
