Young singers from Harris have scooped prizes at this year’s Royal National Mòd.

 

Not only did Sir E Scott School choirs excel in their events, many pupils shone in the individual competitions.

 

Flying the flag for Sgoil an t-Òib (Leverhulme Memorial School) was Flora NicDhòmhnaill who won second place in the P4 Poetry Recitation contest.

 

And her older sister, Annie NicDhòmhnaill from Leverburgh, now a pupil at Sir E Scott, was awarded a bronze badge for storytelling.

 

Fiona Langley of Sir E Scott / Sgoil Chiùil na Gàidhealtachd won the trophy for Traditional Singing 16-18 Girls while Luke Johnson was awarded the first prize in the same event for boys. Each receive £60 prize money from the Clan Maclean Heritage Trust in addition to trophies.

 

Fiona and Luke joined forces for the duet singing and were awarded second place. Fiona was also third in her clàrsach event.

 

Second prize against 18 entrants in the traditional singing event for her age group was Chirsty Bella Mhoireasdan. She also received a silver badge for solo singing.

 

The Allan C. MacLeod Memorial Trophy for Psalm precenting went to Nathan Coghill.

Seumas Macleod won second prize for solo traditional singing, P4 pupil Orla NicLeòid was third equal in her singing contest, while Cailean Macleod received second prize in the P3 singing event.
