Minch-bound ship runs aground

18 July 2018

A cargo ship heading for the Minch has run aground.

The westbound MV Priscilla grounded at entrance to the Pentland Firth, approximately five miles north east of Duncansby Head.

The 89 metre cargo ship has six crew onboard. The vessel remains stable with no major damage nor pollution.

Coastguard emergency tug MV Ievoli Black was in the Minch and headed to the casualty vessel, arriving around 6pm.

In the meantime, Thurso lifeboat and two tugs planned to try and refloat the vessel on the afternoon tide.

Kaimes Beasley, duty controller for HM Coastguard said:  “At this stage the vessel is stable and the crew on board are safe and well and there is no risk to life.”
