A northerly gale is forecast for the Western Isles from this afternoon and overnight.

Some heavy showers will accompany the strong winds.

Blustery conditions and rough seas are expected to continue in some areas for the first part of Saturday.

Cal Mac advised a number of island ferry sailings face disruption

The Castlebay service is cancelled today. The additional sailing for Saturday will now depart earlier than scheduled. Due to rough seas the transport of livestock will be weather dependent.

Timetables for North Uist and Harris are affected. The morning sailing from Tabert was cancelled. MV Hebrides brought forward her return run between Lochmaddy and Uig to avoid the adverse conditions.  

The Stornoway passenger service is cancelled today and faces disruption on Saturday.

Friday afternoon inter-island ferries face disruption.
