An incoming Atlantic low is forecast to bring a gale over the Western Isles tonight and Wednesday morning.
Blustery wintry showers are expected this afternoon with a south westerly wind rising again from early evening.
Storm force winds are possible overnight.
Impacts on local road travel will not be as severe as during Storm Brendan but tides are still high and a storm surge has the potential to cause disruption to causeways and coastal routes.
Disruption for ferry travel can be expected.
