After a weekend of cancelled and amended sailings, Western Isles ferry services face
further disruption today (Monday).
With winds gusting up to 60mph, the 7.15am and later timetabled morning departures
and return between Barra and Eriskay are cancelled. Relief vessel, MV Loch Bhrusda,
will assess the localised weather conditions at noon for later sailings.
All sailings on the main Sound of Harris service and for the relief passenger charter
service are cancelled.
Castlebay ferry, MV Isle of Lewis, remains sheltering in Stornoway. She shifted north
as her Castlebay berth was exposed to the strong winds when Storm Bert landed, risking
damage to the vessel and pier. Her Oban sailing is cancelled. Service is due to resume
on Tuesday, leaving Barra nearly an hour later than timetabled.
As the stormbound MV Hebrides is in the wrong place for resuming timetable she will
relocate from Tarbert at 5am heading to Lochmaddy. Traffic and passengers can travel
on this sailing. Her Skye triangle service remains liable to disruption or cancellation
due to weather.
Following cancellations over Saturday, MV Loch Seaforth took advantage of a weather
window to make a run to Stornoway and back to Ullapool on Sunday morning. She will
now stay on the mainland side until wind and sea abate. Her morning freight run is
cancelled as is her 7am Stornoway departure. All further sailings on the route are
liable to disruption or cancellation due to weather conditions.
The South Uist service is cancelled until the end of this month due to outages elsewhere
and a lack of relief vessels.
