NHS Scotland is offering the free flu vaccine to those at risk of exposure to avian (bird) flu this winter.

People are eligible for a free vaccine if they keep poultry or regularly visit poultry units

They can also get the jab if they clean at confirmed bird flu outbreak premises or handle live unwell birds where bird flu is suspected

The  vaccine is also available to those involved in the collection of wild or domestic bird carcasses where bird flu is suspected, including sea birds

While the vaccine doesn’t protect against bird flu, it can reduce the risk of a new flu virus forming which could happen if you’re exposed to flu and bird flu at the same time.

Eligible people can drop-in to one of our local NHS vaccination clinics which are listed on online.
