These photos show the car from which an island resident had a fortunate escape - she squeezed through a smashed window as the vehicle began to sink after crashing into a roadside loch on the main Lewis to Harris road by Aline.

The car ploughed 30 metres down an embankment into Loch Gille Chìopain in Aline, South Lochs, on Tuesday.

Winds have since pushed the just-floating vehicle to the edge of the loch.
