NHS Western Isles is the first Scottish health board to offer the Covid jab to its entire adult population.

Clinics taking place through the Western Isles from this week are inviting people aged 18 years and over.

The isles’ vaccination team is being strengthened to accelerate the vaccination programme for all adults said the local health board.

Gordon Jamieson, chief executive of NHS Western Isles, said: “Tremendous progress has been made by our vaccination team over the last few months and we are delighted to now be at the stage that we can offer appointments to anyone across the Western Isles aged 18 or over.

“The vaccination programme is a huge effort by an extended team of people, from planners and vaccinators; to our partner agency volunteers at the clinics and local business and organisations supporting us with premises and facilities.”

He added: “Huge thanks to everyone involved for enabling us to reach this important stage in the programme.

“As we make every effort to ensure all adults are offered their first vaccination as quickly as possible, another equally important priority is to continue to provide the vital second doses for everyone when they are due, and we are pleased to be making very good progress with this as well.”

Meanwhile, five weeks have passed without a confirmed Covid-19 case reported anywhere in the Western Isles.

Slots can be arranged by phoning 0808 196 8383.

Alternatively email wi.covidvax@nhs.scot and health staff will contact you for an appointment.
