More retail premises, hotels and charity shops than usual entered this year’s Stornoway shop window Christmas display contest with a number of eye-catching presentations brightening up the town.

The most festive award goes to Events shop with owner Iain MacAulay lighting up the entire frontage of his premises.

Blythswood on Kenneth Street scooped the Charlie Nicolson shield for the best charity shop display. The entire festive display was hand crafted, including the sledge, and the total cost of the display came to an impressive £10 - evidence that a large amount of funds are not necessary to produce such an impact.

The Royal Hotel and the Harris Tweed shop also won prizes.

Emma Henderson of the Western Isles Lottery said: “It is fabulous seeing such efforts being made to showcase the businesses throughout the town and heartening to have more companies join in each year.

“The team send congratulations to each and every business and especially to the competition winners – our town is again looking lovely and festive.”

Winners of the residential competition are to be announced next week.
