The Castlebay ferry will resume normal service tomorrow after a broken linkspan was fixed.
Engineers repaired the faulty shore ramp in Oban.
Barra passengers were diverted to Skye as a result of the technical issue today.
On two other occasions this week, travellers were badly disrupted when they were forced to swap vessels on Mull.
The failure of hydraulic components is believed to be the cause behind the fault at Oban’s number two linkspan but finding a solution to get it back up and running is taking some time.
It has not been confirmed if the present issue is a repeat of the fault on Monday which closed the ramp.
“Extensive tests” were carried out on the structure which is owned by CMAL, the agency responsible for its repair, before it was declared safe to operate.
A spokesperson for CMAL said: “The issue has now been resolved and the Oban linkspan has returned to regular service.”
