Western Isles ferry services encountered upheaval on Sunday due to a force eight gale and heavy seas.

MV Loch Seaforth ran ahead of the worst of the weather, bringing forward her return sailing by up to six hours.  Her morning passenger sailing is on yellow alert.  

Freight sailings on the Stornoway route are cancelled.   

Due to adverse weather forecast, 02:00 from Ullapool is cancelled. This is due to strong winds and sea swell.

Despite hopes of undertaking a crossing, the Sound of Barra service did not operate today. Sailings hope to resume on Monday.  

MV Isle of Lewis is weather bound in Castlebay with her timetable cancelled. The vessel operated a special sailing yesterday.  

The interim North Uist - Ullapool service is cancelled on Sunday due to ongoing council pier works at Lochmaddy hampering safe navigation in the harbour area in adverse weather.  

Lochboisdale sailings are cancelled for Sunday with disruption also possible on Monday.  

MV Loch Portain on the Sound of Harris is the only island ferry operating a normal service.
