Hebrides News

The MV Hebrides is resuming sailings after a breakdown over the past three days.

The vessel is returning to operational duties this afternoon.

The ferry which services Uist and Harris has been out of action since Monday after a serious electrical fault knocked out onboard critical safety systems.

A team of specialist engineers and technicians travelled north to assist in repairs.

Two sets of sea trials were undertaken yesterday and further repair work continued into today.

Final tests were carried out this afternoon on the Hebrides in open water.

She is due to return to berth after 3pm with a view to commence loading to allow services to resume an hour later.

The first departure would be around 4pm from Uig to Tarbert said Cal Mac. The return leg is due to leave Harris at 6.15pm. Later the vessel will undertake a sailing from Uig to Lochmaddy where she will remain overnight.

During the breakdown, the MV Lord of the Isles was diverted from her South Uist route to carry out relief sailings between Skye and North Uist.
