Hebrides News

Harris ferry MV Hebrides is diverting to and from Stornoway following an incident at her normal pier in Tarbert  today.

A drilling rig is believed to have fallen into the water while being used in the construction of the new berth at the port.

The facility is temporarily ruled out of service. Divers have been commissioned to check the seabed.

The vessel is now operating between Skye and Lewis.

Lochmaddy sailings are also disrupted as a result.

Ferry traffic at Harris was told to head to Stornoway to catch the Hebrides. She arrived at 5.25pm with vehicles and travellers finding themselves 60 miles away from their destination.

A bus transported foot passengers over the Clisham.

Cal Mac hopes service will resume on Tuesday though there is a possibility that the 9.30am departure from Uig may need to divert to Stornoway.
