Many Western Isles ferries are on yellow alert today and Monday due to adverse weather.

Strong winds building up to force eight along with associated rough seas are forecast.

CalMac warned a number of sailings may be cancelled or delayed at short notice over Sunday.

The Sound of Harris service has been suspended today and is due to resume on Monday morning.

MV Loch Alainn’s last timetabled run between Barra and Eriskay is cancelled on Sunday while the mid-afternoon sailing will depart two hours early.

In a bid to avoid the worst of the strengthening winds, MV Isle of Lewis is running three hours ahead of schedule on the Oban to Castlebay link.  

CalMac said Lochmaddy sailings are liable to disruption or cancellation as vessel manoeuvrability at Lochmaddy is hazardous during to adverse weather and pier works on Sunday.

Sailing times for the Tarbert service have been brought forward on Sunday because of bad weather with the vessel departing at 6.30am.

Another spell of gale force winds and big swells is forecast on Monday as a cold front moves over the islands.

On Monday, high seas in the northern Minch put Castlebay, Tarbert and Stornoway sailings at risk of disruption or cancellation at short notice.

Meanwhile, the South Uist ferry service is cancelled for the next two weeks due to the Lochboisdale linkspan being out action for repairs.

Until 8 October sailing times are different than usual for Harris due to the knock-on impact of Lochboisdale linkspan repairs. The smaller vessel, MV Lord of the Isles, is temporarily operating the service.


 

  

Ferry disruption alert continues on Monday
