Ferries risk disruption from southerly gale
7 November 2024
Thursday is set to be a great day for hanging out the washing with a forecast of
no rain and blustery winds. Temperatures should feel fairly mild particularly in
sheltered locations.
But strengthening winds up to force eight accompanied by some strong gusts are likely
to be experienced on the open water with a number of Western Isles ferry sailings
facing potential cancellations or delays.
Due to 50mph gusts, the first timetabled return crossing on the Sound of Barra is
cancelled. Local weather conditions will be monitored by the skipper. An update on
later sailings is due around 8.30am.
The South Uist - Oban - Barra skeleton service also faces disruption.
MV Hebrides is expected to undertake her Lochmaddy - Skye run this morning but later
sailings on the Skye triangle route are liable to delay.
The Sound of Harris service has been placed on yellow alert.
