Ferry disruption is on the cards tomorrow (Tuesday) for some Western Isles due to strong winds increasing to a force eight gale off South Uist and Barra.

Sailings on the Sound of Barra route will be liable to disruption or cancellation at short notice.

MV Isle of Mull’s sailing from Oban to South Uist risks cancellation due to strong south easterly winds. If she does not operate on Tuesday afternoon then the vessel will be out of position and unable to undertake the Wednesday morning timetabled run to the mainland.

MV Isle of Lewis intends to depart Barra two hours ahead of schedule in a bid to run ahead of the incoming gale. She will leave Castlebay at 5am and seeks a quick turnaround at Oban, heading back to sea at 10.15am.

On Wednesday the Barra service will operate to an amended timetable to avoid berthing clashes in Oban
