Hebrides News

Western Isles ferry services face disruption on Saturday as a gale whips up rough seas.

Winds are set to strengthen as an Atlantic tracks across the Hebrides and north Scotland over the day.

Gusts of 50mph are expected at times, perhaps touching 60mph in the northern Minch.

CalMac said the Stornoway - Ullapool timetable will be impacted. The low will chase the MV Loch Seaforth across to Ullapool in the morning where the vessel will tie up for much of the day. The evening forecast looks borderline at the time of publication leaving the departure from the mainland on yellow alert.

MV Isle of Mull’s combined service for South Uist and Barra is cancelled.

The middle timetabled return sailing on the Sound of Harris - which is already disrupted due to very low tides - is cancelled while the final sailing is very much in doubt.

On the Sound of Barra,  the first two return runs are expected to operate but conditions are forecast to rapidly deteriorate placing the rest of the day’s timetable on disruption alert.
