The issue affecting the Comhairle’s Faire telecare alarm system has been fixed.

The service is now fully functional and restored to normal service.

A number of vulnerable islanders were cut off from the vital phone service after one of the main telephone lines was damaged by accident over a week ago.

The 24-hour Faire service, operated by the Comhairle’s social and community services team, provides a phone link for vulnerable and elderly people.

Openreach which maintains UK telephone and broadband lines insisted they were not responsible for the outage and did not cancel the service.

The firm says they only received the new order on Thursday.

An Openreach spokesperson said the issue was sorted at the weekend.
