Erica Morrison restyles the Highlands and Islands

Actress turned interior designer Erica Morrison is taking viewers on a design adventure through the Highlands and Islands in a new TV series.
With the help of local craft workers the Skye native finds new ideas for designing old spaces,
Her love for interior design started back in 2017 after she renovated a flat in Edinburgh -
The Rùm Gu Rùm series features everything from houses and flats to hotels, B&Bs and even churches as we get an insight into Erica’s world.
The aim of the show is to demonstrate DIY people can actually use, but Erica also guides the more ambitious amateur decorators through recycling and upcycling old furniture and how to find gems at auction and architectural salvage.
One of the most striking transformations in the series comes as Erica helps an Australian woman revamp a Forres hotel.

Summarising the series and her own style, Erica says: “I’ve worked as an actor on various dramas and in different capacities in the arts, but interior design has always been my passion.
“In 2017 I got the opportunity to refurbish a flat in Edinburgh. That set me on a new path and now I travel throughout the Highlands and Islands, giving people’s rooms and houses an elegant makeover.
“I don’t follow trends as such. There’s a lot of that on Instagram, lots of trendy people with lovely styles, which I like.
“I look at them and admire them, but trends go out of fashion and when I’m refurbishing a house or a room I try to make it timeless.
“For myself, when I’m staying somewhere I want it to look cosy. I want it to look stylish, too, but comfortable and cosy suits me.”
