Urras Stòras an Rubha has appointed Donna Matheson as part-time development officer for the community of Point in Lewis.

Mrs Matheson’s mission is draw up a development plan for the district, working closely with local groups.

She has wide experience of community development in both rural and urban locations, in partnership with the public, private and voluntary sectors.

Having worked in Edinburgh and Glasgow for a number of years, the Lewis born islander returned to the Hebrides in 2008. A period of duty followed with the Outer Hebrides LEADER funding programmes, as part of a small team co-ordinating the effective delivery and implementation of the programme throughout the islands.

Later, she took up a role with the North Uist Development Company, taking forward numerous economic development projects in the area, including a large renewable energy scheme.

Her first task, currently underway, is consultation with community groups and organisations to work towards the compilation of a development plan for Point and to identify initiatives that contribute towards growth and sustainability.

This plan will give an overall picture of the work and activities of the various community groups in Point, and will identify priorities for further development, and the resources, financial and otherwise, required to bring these to fruition.

A spokeswoman said: “There is a lot of good work being done in our community and we wish it see it continue and thrive.

“We hope that all community groups will take the opportunity to participate in the consultation process.

“If you are involved in a group or organisation in the Point area, you should have received a survey to complete and return.

“If you have not received this, please contact Donna to ensure that she has contact information for all local groups.”

She can be contacted at development@storasanrubha.co.uk
