Former Olympic winner David Hemery is championing sports coaching in the Western Isles.
Hemery, a 400 metre Olympic hurdles gold medallist will give a keynote speech at the first Coaching Conference held in the islands.
He is currently the Vice Chairman of the British Olympic Association.
After retiring from athletics, David worked as a coach in the USA and later came back to Britain where he taught coaching and mentoring skills to business managers and sports coaches.
The event is being hosted by the Lewis and Harris Sports Council.
Retiring chairman Manus McGee said: “This is an excellent opportunity for existing and potential new coaches. We are delighted to be joined by not only David Hemery, but other experts in their sporting field.
“I am confident that the conference will be an excellent platform to showcase what is on offer to coaches in the Western Isles. will host their first Coaching Conference in Stornoway.
“Being a coach is a hugely rewarding experience and this conference aims to highlight the support which is on offer from the Comhairle, the local Sports Council and professional bodies at a national level.”
The all day event which is being held in partnership with Comhairle nan Eilean Siar’s Sport and Health Section, sportscotland and Cala Hotels aims to attract new coaches to a variety of sporting disciplines as well as giving existing coaches the opportunity to come together, share ideas and practise and forge new contacts.
Conference attendees will be given the opportunity to attend workshops on football, rugby, athletics, gymnastics, swimming and golf from the various sports governing bodies.
Following lunch at the Caladh Hotel, delegates will be given a flavour of kickboxing from Scottish and British Heavyweight Muay Thai champion Norrie MacKenzie and Tony Wade, Facilities Manager at Ionad Spòrs Leòdhais will also be on hand giving cardiovascular and strength conditioning workshops.
