Car stuck in sand on beach

18 August 2022

A crofter with a tractor came to the aid of a driver who got their car trapped on Horgabost beach in Harris.

The Mini was stuck in the sand and the driver was unable to get back onto more stable terrain yesterday afternoon.

Fortunately, the tide was still receding but the vehicle was there for a couple of hours until towed to firm ground by the tractor.

Members of Harris coastguard rescue team provided a safety watch over the situation and Leverburgh fire crew was also alerted.

In June, a tourist and his vehicle were bogged down in wet sand after he acted on a whim to drive down to Port Stoth beach near the Butt of Lewis lighthouse in Lewis.

Help was summoned from a local resident who towed the stranded car to safety with a tractor.
