A weather front moving slowly southward is set to bring strong winds and spells of
heavy rain to many parts of the Western Isles today (Monday).
Strong gusts are expected south of Lewis though temperatures remain fairly mild.
On the west coast and Highlands, weather warnings of heavy rain include travel routes
to and from Western Isle ferries.
Conditions for the Western Isles remain blustery with strong gusts and more rain
on Tuesday as another Atlantic low moves in. Temperatures begin to dip by Wednesday
with gusty winds.
For today (Monday), due to forecast strong winds, CalMac has placed some ferry services
on yellow alert.
The first timetabled returned sailings between Barra and Eriskay are cancelled while
the timetable for the rest of the day is liable to disruption or cancellation at
short notice.
MV Isle of Lewis has brought forward her Monday morning departure by half an hour
to 6.30am.
MV Loch Seaforth’s overnight freight run did not operate but the vessel resumes service
this morning from Stornoway.
With south westerly gale force winds and very rough seas anticipated for the longer
Oban route, the morning forecast updates will determine whether the Lochboisdale
ferry sails.
Meanwhile, the Skye triangle route is on yellow alert for Tuesday.
