Isles’ political hopeful promises to donate 10% of MSP salary to charity

A candidate in the Western Isles election race has pledged to donate part of his MSP’s wages to charity, if elected.
Callum Ian Macmillan said the money would go to Western Isles charities.
10% of his salary would deducted at source which would be worth £6447, he calculates.
He asked the other candidates in the constituency poll to make a similar commitment.
Mr Macmillan was still a Labour Party member when he put his name forward as an independent candidate for the ballot. Such action attracts an automatic expulsion from the party under its rule book.
He said he is standing on values of “honesty, decency and respect.”
Mr Macmillan said said his “Time for Change” campaign is about making a “real difference for the weakest and poorest in our community.
“This group is growing by the day - so all MSPs should make the same commitment. It's the least that they can do.”
He added: "These are not "penny numbers" we're talking about.
“At a time when people and charities need support and charitable giving has dropped off because people can't afford to give or are worried about their future this will make a difference.
“If followed across Scotland by all 129 MSPs "The Macmillan Commitment" will amount to over one million pounds a year going to local charities in the areas that the MSPs represent from MSPs who are certain of a salary for five years - and there aren't many others that can be certain about anything at this time.”
