Sirs,

In his letter of 8th August, Point councillor Norrie Macdonald appears to suggest bureaucracy is at the centre of the problem over the future status of the mobile library services.

The need for replacing these vehicles was identified more than year ago. This being the case, the level of our council’s bureaucracy surpasses that of Westminster.

Probably being the largest geographic local authority in the UK, the need for the services are critical for those in the rural parts of these islands.

To suggest that the councillors are not sure what is needed to continue the service is hard to believe. As the service already exists they have all the fundamental information needed to provide an ongoing service, even if it is an amended service.

The delay in deciding the way forward suggests to many of us that the service will be axed with some unworkable solution offered in its place.

If the Point councillors were committed to the service they would be informing us in the normal way of shouting it from the roof tops. Instead, we get a letter full of bureaucratic rhetoric.

Councillor Macdonald and his two colleagues should remember that - as elected members - they are part of the bureaucratic hold-up.

Instead of blaming others, they should be working to resolve the issue and supporting those within their ward who are dependent upon the mobile library services.
