Broken ferry out of action for weeks 20/4/14
The broken MV Loch Alainn - which sails between Barra and Eriskay will be out of
action for weeks.
The much smaller MV Loch Riddon has been taken off her Oban to Lismore run to fill
in but the lack of space means vehicles need to pre-book.
The MV Loch Bhrùsda is being mobilised to operate on the Eriskay to Barra route for
the longer term said Cal Mac.
The breakdown caused a huge logistical headache over the Easter weekend holiday.
Tourists faced being turned back at some island ferries as Caledonian Macbrayne was
forced to shuffle its network of ships serving small islands.
Passengers with vehicles were advised not to turn up without notice on a number of
services due to the reduced size of relief vessels.
Cancelled sailings all day Wednesday hit deliveries of supplies to Barra.
The ferry - which usually makes five return sailings daily between Eriskay and the
north of Barra - is being sent to a mainland shipyard for lengthy repairs.
