A body of a woman has been found during a search for a missing woman on Benbecula.

Formal identification has still to take place, however the family of 28-year-old Shanahan MacInnes, who was missing from Balivanich, have been made aware.

Police Scotland confirmed they were made aware at 1.05pm today (Sunday) of the discovery in the Aird area of Benbecula.

The death is not being treated as suspicious and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal said a police statement.

Shanahan MacInnes was reported missing on Friday.

Police Scotland said she was last seen around 1.30am that morning in the Tindill Road area of Balivanich.

Around 150 locals turned out in inclement weather to help in the search in conjunction with the emergency services.
