Eriskay Football Club’s unsung hero, Stephen MacDonald, has been nominated for an award as Britain’s off-the-pitch champion.

The club’s chairman and all-round stalwart is one of the first contenders to feature in Sky Bet’s nationwide search for real behind-the-scenes football stars.

Sky Bet set a camera crew to the island to interview him, declaring “he's the man who makes it all happen for Outer Hebrides club Eriskay FC.”

“You’d be hard-pressed to find a more beloved chairman in the game.

“From driving the bus on away days to running the line when needed, Stephen is the heartbeat of a club in the most isolated location imaginable.”

Contributions from players in the mini documentary-style film shines a light on MacDonald, who they reckon is the “best signing Eriskay ever made,” with his committed efforts to keep the club running.

“He’s been absolute magic, can’t fault him at all,” enthuses manager Martin “Cherry” MacAulay.

Player, Stephen Campbell, hails the “massive difference” he’s achieved through promoting and fundraising for the club.

And he harnesses social media to plug the team, getting them known worldwide.

A shortlist will be revealed in September from which an expert panel will select a winner who will receive VIP tickets to the Championship play-off finals at Wembley.
