Hebrides News

Ben Fogle has returned to Harris to film for the BBC One Show.

The 44-year-old adventurer found fame in the BBC Castaway reality TV series filmed on the island in 2000.

He wanted to buy Taransay for a wildlife resort when it came up for sale seven years ago.

Fogle calls the island “home.”

He says it is his “happy place” where he holds a “sense of belonging.”

The  former Countryfile presenter has been enticed back for a one day visit by the BBC One Show which is transmitting two Western Isles specials this week.

Ben Fogle took to twitter to relay his excitement.

He said: “Can’t wait to return to my favourite place in the world, Taransay in the Outer Hebrides for @BBCTheOneShow on Monday.

“It’s been nearly 20 years since we were Castaway. A lot has happened since then.

The weeknight magazine programme will focus on Harris and Lewis as part of a two-night special.

Presenters Alex Jones and Matt Baker will be based at West Harris Trust’s Talla na Mara next on Thursday.

On Friday, the duo will be in Stornoway, transmitting live from the annual Heb Celt Festival.

Both programmes will focus on life in the Hebrides, with a range of features each night.
