Broadcast correspondent Michael Buchanan of Barra has been awarded a top accolade from the Royal Television Society (RTS) for a Panorama programme about the repeated failings in maternity care at hospitals in Shropshire.
Mr Buchanan investigated how campaigning parents uncovered cases of many babies dying unnecessarily in the care provided by hospital staff under Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust.
Maternity Scandal: Fighting for the Truth explored the dysfunctional culture amongst defensive hospital chiefs.
Awarding the Specialist Journalist of the Year prize, RTS judges said Mr Buchanan “devoted several years to pursuing and exposing appalling failures which wrecked many lives.
“Despite the emotional nature of his stories, the jury agreed this reporter never loses his focus and clarity.”
